Part 2 // Balance Your Chakras Using Essential Oils

Let's continue our discussion on chakras and essential oils by exploring why you should care!  These swirling wheels of energy correspond to massive nerve centers in the body. Each of the seven main chakras contains bundles of nerves and major organs as well as our psychological, emotional, and spiritual states of being. Since everything is moving, it’s essential that our seven main chakras stay open, aligned, and fluid. If there is a blockage, energy cannot flow. Think of something as simple as your bathtub drain. If you allow too much hair to go into the drain, the bathtub will back up with water, stagnate and eventually bacteria and mold will grow. So is too with our bodies and the chakras. A bathtub is simple; it’s physical so the fix is easy. Keeping a chakra open is a bit more of a challenge, but not so difficult when you have awareness. Since mind, body, soul, and spirit are intimately connected, awareness of an imbalance in one area will help bring the others back into balance. Take for example, a wife, who has recently lost her husband. She develops acute bronchitis, which remains in the chest, and then gets chest pains each time she coughs. The whole heart chakra is affected in this case. If she realizes the connection between the loss and the bronchitis, healing will occur much faster if she honors the grieving process and treats that as well as the physical ailment.

Where do I start?

Clearing the chakras begins with the foundation. The first three chakras are the chakras of Matter, starting at the base of the spine. They are more physical in nature. We need to start at the base - or the Root Chakra - on this journey to begin balancing. Here’s a brief overview of the three chakras of matter before we dive deep into the first one on it’s own.

First Chakra: The Muladhara is the chakra of stability, security, and our basic needs. It encompasses the first three vertebrae, the bladder, and the colon. When this chakra is open, we feel safe and fearless. We feel supported, a sense of connection and safety to the physical world, and grounded. ***The lesson of this chakra is self-preservation; we have a right to be here.***

Second Chakra: The Svadhisthana Chakra is our creativity and sexual center. It is located above the pubic bone, below the navel, and is responsible for our creative expression. When this chakra is balanced, we have an ability to take risks, we are creative, we are committed. We are passionate, sexual and outgoing. ***The lesson of this chakra is to honor others.***

Third Chakra: The Manipura Chakra means lustrous gem and it’s the area from the navel to the breastbone. The third chakra is our source of personal power. When this chakra is balanced, we feel self-respect and self-compassion. We feel in control, assertive, confident. ***The lesson of this chakra is self-acceptance.***

First Chakra / Root

Heart Chakra

The Root Chakra, or the Muladhara is the chakra of stability, security, and our basic needs. It encompasses the first three vertebrae, the bladder, and the colon. When this chakra is open, we feel safe and fearless. We feel supported, a sense of connection and safety to the physical world, and grounded. ***The lesson of this chakra is self-preservation; we have a right to be here.***

The Root Chakra is often associated with the color red. Red symbolizes life, vitality, endurance, and appetite – the very drivers of our survival and existence as beings within the universe.

How do we know if the Root Chakra is blocked or unbalanced? Feelings of loneliness and insecurity, lack of confidence, spacey, feeling unsafe, digestive/excretion issues, and/or experiencing times of instability or change.

Suggested Essential Oils to use with balancing the Root Chakra include: Cypress, Ginger, Cinnamon Bark, Sandalwood, Valor, Abundance, Grounding, Vetiver, Myrrh, Patchouli, Sacred Mountain and Nutmeg. Diffuse and/or apply to base of spine and/or bottom of feet. (Select one or a combination that you are drawn to - there is no right or wrong answer!)

Root Chakra Balancing Recipe: 1 drop Vetiver + 2 drops Myrrh + 6 drops Sacred Frankincense + 4 drops Ylang Ylang + 1-4 small Red Jasper pebbles (optional). Combine ingredients in a small 2 oz spray bottle with distilled or bottled water or into a 5 ml glass bottle with carrier oil. Apply to Root Chakra as needed.

Balancing tips: Meditate outside, sitting on the ground to connect with the earth for this practice. Focus on yoga asanas (poses) that focus on grounding your body. Take a walk in nature. Practice while utilizing the color red, or incorporating a gemstone over the chakra area using a gemstone specific for balance of the Root Chakra: bloodstone, onyx, obsidian, hematite, or tigers eye.

Affirmation / I am connected to all that is around me, this connection gives me a strong foundation and does not hold me back. Security and stability in life allow me to move with both confidence and connection to who I am.

Guided Meditation for Root Chakra

Second Chakra / Sacral

Moving on to the Second Chakra – Sacral. Located just above the Root Chakra, the Sacral Chakra deals primarily with our ability of acceptance, connection, creativity, and sexual health. It deals with our ideals of enjoyment and pleasure. It is located in the lower abdomen, just below the navel. This position connects it to our sense of abundance and well-being. It can greatly affect the physical energy of the body, and when it falls out of balance, one can feel lethargic, tired and mundane. When this chakra is balanced, we have an ability to take risks, we are creative, we are committed. We are passionate, sexual and outgoing.

The Sacral Chakra is associated with the color orange. Orange reflects a feeling of openness and changing (consider the changing tones of color in the fall – almost all pass through orange). Orange energy is also very sensual, and is able to transform mundane energy into more powerful, bright energy.

Tips for Balancing your Sacral Chakra. Locate it first - Lower abdomen, about two inches below the navel and two inches in. Spend time near or in the water. Practice positive affirmations – “I love life” and “I know that I deserve goodness and joy” are two examples. Practice fluid, changing yoga poses (Seated pelvic circles, butterfly pose, cobra pose). Hula hooping, spinning, and other motion driven exercises stimulate this chakra. Practice while utilizing the color orange, or incorporating a gemstone over the chakra area using a gemstone specific for balance of the Sacral Chakra: carnelian, red garnet, red jasper, red and brown aventurine, ruby.

Suggested Essential Oils to use with balancing the Sacral Chakra include: Ylang Ylang, Clary Sage, Rose, Rosemary, Patchouli, Jasmine, Cedarwood, orange, tangerine, geranium, Peace & Calming, Harmony, Inner Child, and Forgiveness; diffused and/or applied slightly below the navel.

Sacral Balancing Recipe: 7 Drops Orange + 4 drops Ylang Ylang + 2 drops Neroli + 1-4 Carnelian pebbles (optional). Combine ingredients in a small 2 oz spray bottle with distilled or bottled water or into a 5 ml glass bottle with carrier oil. Apply to Sacral Chakra as needed.

Affirmation / I am a sensory being full of creative potential. I embrace life with passion and enjoy plunging into joy and happiness. My senses are alive, aware, and connected.

Guided Meditation for Sacral Chakra Balancing

Third Chakra / Solar Plexus

The Solar Plexus most common chakra to be out of balance. This chakra is located about two inches above the navel at the diaphragm of the body. Here, this chakra connects us to discipline, desire and gut instincts. It affects the sense of power and comfort one has with their surroundings, and when it is out of balance, the chakra can affect our sense of certainty. Deals with willpower, and is blocked by shame. When this chakra is balanced, we feel self-respect and self-compassion. We feel in control, assertive, confident.

The Solar Plexus Chakra is associated with the color yellow. The color represents vibrance, youthful, optimism and energy. At the same time, like a hot yellow sun, the color represents knowledge and wisdom. It’s connected to introspection, intellect and guided autonomy.

How do you know if your Solar Plexus Chakra is Unbalanced? Weak concentration. Poor memory. Uncentered, uneasy feeling. Skin issues. Fatigue. Colon Issues. Poor self-worth, self-esteem. Low self-confidence.

Tips for balancing the Solar Plexus Chakra: Locate it: Upper abdomen in the stomach area. Bask in sunlight. Start a bonfire (safely) and sit around it with friends. Talk a walk in the sun. Meditate and practice metacognition (think about how you think). When you meditate on the solar plexus, your focus should be on connecting with your personal power. Practice while utilizing the color yellow, or incorporating a gemstone over the chakra area using a gemstone specific for balance of the Solar Plexus Chakra: amber, quartz, topaz, aragonite, citrine, golden calcite, yellow sapphire.

Suggested Essential Oils for Use with Balancing the Solar Plexus Chakra: Myrrh, Frankincense, Balsam Fir, Lemon, Juniper, Basil, Lavender, Bergamot, Geranium, Ginger, Lemongrass, Harmony, Sacred Mountain, Acceptance, Release. Diffuse or apply to upper abdomen, stomach area.

Solar Plexus Balancing Recipe: 5 drops Grapefruit + 4 drops Lemon + 2 drops Lemongrass + 2 drops Roman Chamomile + 1-4 Citrine pebbles (optional). Combine ingredients in a small 2 oz spray bottle with distilled or bottled water or into a 5 ml glass bottle with carrier oil. Apply to Solar Plexus Chakra as needed.

Affirmation / I love and accept myself. I am willing to stand up for myself in confidence for that which I believe. I have the freedom to make my own choices in life with appreciation of my sense of self. I am connected to the source of all power and it flows through me to encourage the power of others.

Guided Meditation for Solar Plexus Chakra Balancing

Part 1 // Balance Your Chakras Using Essential Oils

This week, we're starting a three part series discussing how you can use essential oils to balance your chakras. Before we start, let's clear the energy around you using sage or sage essential oil to ensure the space you’re in is a positive one.

Here is a simple way to clear your space:⠀
Try making a Clear the Energy spray with the following items: 13 drops of Sage essential oil + 2 oz spray bottle + 1-4 small Clear Quartz pebbles (optional). Fill spray bottle with distilled or bottled water and all the ingredients above or use a 5 ml roller bottle, add the ingredients and fill to the top with carrier oil. Swirl contents before using. Spray it in the corners of your room, over the door frame and throughout the space. Spray it on your mat before you start your yoga or meditation practice.⠀

Or try using a sage stick:⠀
Step 1: Notice funky energy or just want a clear space.⠀
Step 2: Grab a sage stick. You can get them at most metaphysical stores and even at some health food stores.⠀
Step 3: Light it up.⠀
Step 4: Walk around your house with it & create an INTENTION to clear your space. Some people like to walk in a counter-clockwise direction.⠀
Step 5: Run sage under a bit of water to extinguish & place on a fire-proof surface to dry (SUPER IMPORTANT!)⠀
Step 6: Enjoy your now energetically cleared space.⠀

Chakras

Okay folks, we are going to get right to the nitty gritty. When I first started with Chakras, the hardest thing was trying to understand something I could not see. However, putting them in terms of spinning energies that focus on points of the body and identifying a color and emotion helped me personally.⠀

The Sanskrit word Chakra literally translates to wheel or disk. In yoga, meditation, and Ayurveda, this term refers to wheels of energy throughout the body. There are seven main chakras, which align the spine, starting from the base of the spine through to the crown of the head. To visualize a chakra in the body, imagine a swirling wheel of energy where matter and consciousness meet. This invisible energy, called Prana, is vital life force, which keeps us vibrant, healthy, and alive. Blocked energy in our seven chakras can often lead to illness, so it's important to understand what each chakra represents and what we can do to keep this energy flowing freely.⠀

The belief is that, through essential oils, energy can be generated for the chakra to keep it healthy and balanced. Sometimes one, or more, of the main chakras can be out of balance, or the energies flowing through them may be blocked. When this happens it has an effect on our health either physically, mentally or emotionally. Using essential oils can help stimulate the 'energy centers' and bring them back into balance. Amazing, right!?! What is your experience? Which oils do you use? Comment below.

We'll continue with each of the chakras next week!

All Things Thieves Online Class

As health and wellness are on the rise, you will see many more companies put products on the shelf that appear to be safe and read “all natural,” but are they really all that safe?

In this class, I will break down some of the misleading information out there and give you alternatives you can feel confident using at an affordable price! I’ll even throw in a few bonus DIY recipes. Get ready to shocked when you learn about what is lurking in your cabinets!

Even though some naturally occurring things in nature can be harmful, I want to assure you that throughout this class, when I refer to products or ingredients as "natural," I mean they are NOT harmful to your health and they are completely safe for you and your family. We will talk about all of my favorites from Young Living and I can assure you they are very safe and also very effective. It's an easy ditch and switch in our house and I know it will be for yours as well.

As the world becomes more aware of what is and isn’t healthy, “all natural” and “toxin-free” products are becoming more and more popular. But are those products really safe? Take a minute and go to your app store and download the app called “Think Dirty.” Sign in and let it take you through the tutorial on how to use the app. I will have you use it throughout class to get more familiar with the products in your house.

The Think Dirty app is an application you can use to scan products and see how they rate in terms of safety. If anything rates a six or higher, I don't touch it with a ten foot pole. If it rates between a 3-5, I check out the ingredient/s that are making it rate that high and also look them up on the The Environmental Working Group website to see why that ingredient is given a higher rating. If that ingredient is the LAST ingredient listed on the product label, I know there is only a small amount in the product. Then I make my own judgment call on whether I want to use the product or not. Products rated 1-2 are completely safe and are my top picks.

If that feels uber time-consuming, it is a great idea to find a company that has your health in mind and is committed to producing products that are safe and effective.

Enter Young Living.

Just for fun, I want you to collect one product from your kitchen, bathroom, and laundry room. For example, all-purpose cleaner, shampoo, and laundry detergent.

Look at those results!

How will this resource help you? This guide will break down some of the misleading information out there regarding "all natural" products, and gives you alternatives you can feel confident using at an affordable price!

Does all natural mean it's safe? As health and wellness are on the rise, you will see many more companies put products on the shelf that appear to be safe and read “all natural”, but are they really all that safe?

After you download the guide, I want you to collect one product from your kitchen, bathroom, and laundry room. For example, all-purpose cleaner, shampoo, and laundry detergent. Have them within reach as you go through this guide. Also, take a minute to download the Think Dirty app on your phone.

Why I chose Young Living?

My education and real-world experience is in environmental science and sustainability, so it's no surprise that YL's sustainability practices immediately struck me as unique and a movement that I wanted to support, wholeheartedly. YL operates their farms around the world to bring us essential oils that are from their native environment. In Oman, Sacred Frankincense is being distilled for the first time.  Gary Young and the team at YL have worked so closely with the people of Oman to create a strong, trusting relationship that YL is the first and only company to have permission to export Sacred Frankincense to the west. Wow! Check out more about their farms HERE.

Seed to Seal guarantee...what does that mean?

Young Living Essential Oils has been around for over 21 years. There are many other essential oil companies to choose from these days (and we do mean many); we see essential oils at almost every store we walk into.

So what makes us so different?

  • We are the ONLY essential oil company that owns its own farms or partners with farms that work up to our standards.
  • We test the dirt for pesticides.
  • We test the water for additives and toxins.
  • We harvest our own seeds to ensure there are no genetically modified organisms (GMOs).
  • We use essential oils as natural pesticides on our crops.
  • We harvest our plants according to the highest yield of potent oil--sometimes during the day, during the night, by hand, by tool, by machinery.
  • We distill on-site in our own distilleries, which are made of medical grade stainless steel, use low heat, slow steam processing to retain therapeutic properties of the oil, and we distill only one time. We test our own oils several times throughout the distillation process and after. We also bottle our own oils. All other essential oil companies buy their oils already distilled and have no quality or purity controls.

My daily beauty regimen

skincare

When I started this oily journey, one of the first things I did was switch out all of our cleaning products to DIY versions using Thieves household cleaner. THEN, I switched out all my skincare products. I tend to forget that my skin is an actual organ and not this protective shield that doesn't need some love. Those wrinkles that have popped up are a good reminder ;)

Here are my daily secret weapons to fight off wrinkles, red splotches, acne, tired eyes and dull skin. I wash my face daily, sometimes morning and night, just depends on how my skin is feeling; apply toner, only if my skin is feeling oily; apply my face serum morning and night (I never forget my serum!); and top it off with my moisturizer. I keep my ‘clear skin’ roller handy for those pesky little pimples and a nightly under eye roller for tired eyes. Once or twice a week, I use the microdermabrasion scrub all over my face and neck. This scrub is a game changer! No more dull skin. #oilandglassrecipebook

Daily Face Wash

INGREDIENTS: 1 tsp. sweet almond oil + 2/3 cup unscented Dr. Bonner’s castile soap + 10 drops ylang ylang essential oil + 4 drops each patchouli and lemongrass essential oil + 5 drops myrrh essential oil (for dry skin) + 1 tsp. Argan oil + 8 oz. foaming soap container

PREPARATION: Pour the castile soap and sweet almond oil into a foaming soap dispenser (it is critical to use a foaming dispenser if you want to achieve the right consistency). Add essential oils and gently swirl to combine. Top with distilled water.

APPLICATION: Use daily morning and night.

Tip: You can also use this as a hand soap, using your favorite essential oils. It’s easy and more economical than buying organic hand soap.

Face Toner

PREPARATION: Drop essential oils into bottle. Fill the remainder of the bottle with equal parts calendula oil + argan oil + marula oil

APPLICATION: Apply to face, morning and night, before applying moisturizer.

Facial Moisturizer

INGREDIENTS: 10 drops frankincense essential oil + 10 drops lavender essential oil + 10 drops geranium essential oil (optional) + 1/4 cup raw shea butter + 1/2 cup cold-pressed, organic coconut oil + 1 tsp. sweet almond oil (optional) + 1 tsp. jojoba oil (optional) +  4 oz. glass jar

PREPARATION: In a double boiler over medium heat, melt the coconut oil and shea butter. Once liquefied, remove from the and let cool. Add in the essential oils, sweet almond oil, and jojoba oils and put the cream in the refrigerator to bring back to a solid state. Before mixing,  let it set out at room temperature to slightly soften, making it easier to work with. Using an electric mixer, whip until light and fluffy. Using a wood spoon transfer body butter into container.

APPLICATION: Use liberally, morning and night.

Experiment with essential oils and carrier oils that are right for your skin type. Try 10 drops of rose, patchouli or ylang ylang essential oils, in addition to the ones listed above.

Microdermabrasion Scrub

INGREDIENTS: 5 1/2 tbsp. Baking Soda + 2 1/2 tbsp. coconut oil (rounded) + 6 tsp. water + 8 drops frankincense + 8 drops lavender + 8 drops Purification + 4 oz. glass jar

PREPARATION: Add the ingredients in the jar and mix together with a fork until well blended.

APPLICATION: Use fingers to apply to a clean face. Scrub lightly in circular motion and rinse.

Clear Your Skin Roller

INGREDIENTS: 4 drops Purification + 1 drop R.C. + 1 drop Thieves + unscented, alcohol-free witch hazel + 10 mL glass roller bottle

PREPARATION: Drop the essential oils into the roller bottle. Using a mini stainless steel funnel, fill remainder of the bottle with witch hazel.

APPLICATION: Roll between hands before use. Apply daily to problem areas on face.

Nightly Under-Eye Roller

INGREDIENTS: 15 drops lavender + 15 drops lemon + 15 drops frankincense + 1 tsp. unscented, alcohol-free witch hazel + sweet almond oil + 10 mL glass roller bottle

PREPARATION: Drop the essential oils into the roller bottle. Using a mini stainless steel funnel, add witch hazel and fill remainder of the bottle with sweet almond oil.

APPLICATION: Roll between hands before use. Apply at night due to the photosensitivity of the oils used in the recipe. Carefully avoid eyes.

14 Day Challenge

Alright, grab that PSK, open it up, get those oils out, set that diffuser up, we are going to play, play, play!

First things first, no one is an oils expert, you read that right, not even me. I learned by reading through our groups, books, and experimenting with my oils! There are three ways to use the oils, aromatic (diffusing), topical (on your body), and ingesting (in your body).

Start this challenge by setting up your diffuser, picking a couple of oils from your starter kit and diffuse away!

*Remember, start with like 3/4/5 drops MAX, you can always add more if you want. There is no right or wrong when it comes to diffusing, play around, see what you are drawn too.

Need to wake up? Lemon + Peppermint are an amazing combo!
Want to rest? Lavender + Stress Away
Dreaming of a beachy island? Peppermint + Stress Away
Respiratory support? RC/Raven + Lemon

The possibilities are endless, have fun!
Comment with your favorite combo!
_____________________________________________________________________
There are lots of simple things that you can do in five minutes or less to crack open the seals on your bottles of magic.

1- Smell the magic: open the bottle and smell the oil, keep in mind it will smell differently when it's on your skin and in the diffuser. Why is this? Well just like music, oils are made up of different notes, top, middle and base. Which is why we use oils in all different ways, so freakin cool!

2- Hand Cupping: place a drop of the oil in the palm of your hand, flatten your hand, the take your other hand and rotate the oils clockwise (this gets the molecules in the oils spinning, helps them come to life) cover your nose and mouth and inhale. You can also rub any leftovers on your wrists, back of your ears, feet, down your spine. If the oil feels hot, add some carrier oil (coconut, grapeseed, olive oil etc)

3- Diffuser jewelry: you can drop oils right onto the jewelry and diffuse on the go. Some of our favorites are lava stones, leather, cork, felt, these absorb the oils the best.

Oh baby! Explore Essential Oils for Baby and Mom-to-be!

Are you expecting? Or do you know someone who is? You may wonder if using oils during pregnancy or with littles is safe. If you use them wisely and pay attention to the guidelines, you can feel good about using them, and from one mama to another, they can be a lifesaver! I used them throughout mine for aches + pains (surprisingly, black pepper is amazing and marjoram, too), nausea (hello, ginger!), mama acne (purification and melrose) and to keep my immune system strong I used thieves everywhere. I included some of my favorite "little" recipes below, and this presentation gets right to the heart of the matter. xo

I made this baby starter package for a dear friend after she had her new baby. The package included sleepytime foot rub, boo boo spray, thieves spray (to clean all those toys that go straight into the mouth), diaper rash cream (no petroleum products!), lavender essential oil and a "happy mama" roll on for her. All items were natural, organic, and specifically diluted for little bodies. Except for the happy mama roller, that was just for her 😍.

Make this as a gift or for your family. Or maybe DIY isn't your thing? Check out this product line >>>

Oils & Scripture

Did you know that there are at least 33 different essential oils or aromatic oil-producing plants mentioned in the Bible? There are over 600(!!!) references to essential oils and/or the aromatic plants from which they were extracted in the Bible. Essential oils are also referred to in the Bible as fragrances, odors, ointments, aromas, perfumes or sweet savors. Incense is mentioned 68 times in the Bible. In 54 of these, the oils of frankincense, myrrh, galbanum, and onycha are indicated! There are four references to the oil of joy or gladness and how oils rejoice the heart.

Using essential oils is a very personal decision much like the beliefs and values each of us hold. We encourage that you explore Scripture, verses or phrases shared in this presentation with kindness and respect. We each walk a spiritual path unique to our hearts and our souls- it is sacred space. Our words can lift us up or take us down. This presentation aims to lift each other up as we discover how oils can enhance our experiences in prayer, worship and study. Practice kindness.

We cannot talk about oils without mentioning plants. After all, oils are the liquid gold of plants. On the third day of creation,  “the earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit with seed in them, after their kind; and God saw that it was good. There was evening and there was morning, a third day.”  (Genesis 1:12-13) What a delight to read that God declared plants are good! We can find about 600 references to essential oils or fragrant plants in the Bible.  Oils were used for 3 main purposes: anointing, healing and worship through the use of incense. The first time oils are mentioned is in Exodus 25:6 when God calls upon His people to bring an offering. “oil for the light, and spices for the anointing oil and for the sweet incense”.

When we read on, there are stories of oils and aromatic plants being treasured as more valuable than gold and silver. They are frequently stored with royal treasures (2 Kings 20:13), brought into the holy space of worship in the Tabernacle in Exodus 30:23-25), and used to anoint King Saul and David. Most treasured of all are the essential oils bestowed in celebration and worship of Jesus Christ. Baby Jesus was gifted Frankincense and Myrrh. Later, during his ministry, he was anointed twice with Spikenard.

Fragrance was an integral part of Biblical ceremonies and often something God required of His believers. Moses added spices and fragrant oils to pure olive oil (Exodus 30). Psalms 45 tells us the Messiah will be clothed with the scent of myrrh, aloes and cassia. Paul writes in Philippians 4:18, about gifts that are a “a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God.” Incense was another form of fragrance, burned twice daily in the Tabernacle and later in the Jerusalem temple.

These essential oils of the Bible were more than just for scent; they were also used for healing. In Ezekiel 47:12, it is written ““Along the bank of the river, on this side and that, will grow all kinds of trees used for food. Their leaves will not wither, and their fruit will be for food, and their leaves shall be for medicine.” They were often incorporated into ointments and salves.

But that’s not all!  These oils also brought joy and gladness to the heart (Psalm 45:7-8, Proverbs 27:9, Isaiah 61:3 and Hebrews 1:9).  The essential oils of the Bible are high in specific constituents that can actually support emotional and spiritual well-being on a cellular level.

There is also science backing up the strength and the value of the Biblical oils. The three most dominant compounds of the Biblical oils are: Sesquiterpenes, Monoterpenes, and Phenols. There are also ketones, aldehydes, and esters in these oils. Each of them offer benefits for our spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical well being.

  • Sesquiterpenes are oxygenating, mood elevating, and deprogram miswritten or garbled codes in the DNA. This compound can stimulate the pineal gland to enhance the spiritual experience. They are also strong supporters of the immune system and boost the body’s natural defenses.
  • Monoterpenes, much like sesquiterpenes, are hostile to microbes and reprogram cells with correct information. This compound can also access the pineal gland to increase the spiritual experience. They are also strong supporters of the immune system and boost the body’s natural defenses.
  • Phenols, ketones, and aldehydes are antiseptic, cleanse receptor sites, and detoxify our bodies whereas esters are calming. Esters help reduce stress and release emotions. Phenols can also support  healthy hormonal balance and body function.

Here's a presentation centered on the specific oils found in the Bible...

Spring Cleaning Series // Part 5 - The Bedroom

I keep a cute little bottle of the thieves spray on my nightstand. To keep our bedroom clean and healthy, I spray a light mist onto our sheets before making the bed and then on top of the comforter once it’s made.

You can spray it directly on your dog’s beds, too. Side note-it works great to easily clean up pet accidents, too.

Diffusing thieves in our bedroom, along with using it as a cleaning spray helps to boost our immune and respiratory systems while keeping us on the healthy side of living!

Try this out on your carpet and mattresses...

Carpet/Matress Freshener: Mix 1 cup baking soda and 5-15 drops EO (purification is amazing!) in a 1/2 pint wide-mouth glass jar. Sprinkle on carpet and let sit for a minimum of 15 minutes. Or, you can let it sit overnight, and then vacuum up!. You can also use this on soiled mattresses, as it helps to remove odor and absorb wetness.

Pet Deodorizing Spray: Combine 10 drops cedarwood, 5 drops tea tree, 1/2 tsp. alcohol, and distilled water in a 2 oz. glass spray bottle. Spritz on carpets, dog beds and throughout the room for odor.

Spring Cleaning Series // Part 4 - The Windows & Floors

Have you ever realized how dirty your couches actually are?! Ladies & Gents -- How many times have you found your little one using a pen on your couches? Ever spilled red wine on your favorite couch or chair?

Thank goodness for Thieves Cleaner! In our house, we have saved the day (again and again!) when we use Thieves Cleaner to clean pen, food, daily dirt and grime and other tiny human messes off our furniture. Another great way to use Thieves Cleaner is to use it to spot clean the carpet from both pet and human messes. Just spray and clean like you would any other carpet cleaner! It’s so nice knowing that there aren’t any harsh chemicals going into surfaces of the places that we spend a good chunk of time on.

We also love using Thieves Cleaner (diluted 30:1) for a general cleaner on our toys and other surfaces that get dirty. With the same ratios, we dust our picture frames and other glass, wipe down any shelves, and clean the windows and mirrors too! The options with this cleaner are endless!

Because Thieves household cleaner is naturally derived with plant- based ingredients, and provides exceptional home cleaning and purifying power, it's the only cleaner we trust in our home now. We use it on every surface of our home including our windows and floors.

We HATE streaks on our windows (who doesn’t?) and seriously questioned if Thieves could be used on our windows, but tried and true it leaves the windows clean and completely streak free! It leaves our windows looking more crystal clear than any other window cleaner we've ever used!

We also have to admit that mopping has always been something dreaded, but not anymore! Now we also don't have to worry about the kids or pets eating off the floor.

What about mirrors? It will definitely clean mirrors and glass in general. The scent is so much better than anything we used previously and we love that we can clean with our kids in the room with me and not worry about what they are breathing in!

Spring Cleaning Series // Part 3 - The Laundry

The laundry room is probably the most neglected rooms in the house when it comes to cleaning. It’s likely the room that needs the most love too with the constant piles of dirty clothes, wet towels, and let's not forget the musty, mildew smells that seems to come from the washer and dryer and clothes we left in there for a few...days....oops!

Lucky for you, I've got some great tips on how to clean your laundry room, from top to bottom, and keep it fresh from here on out!

Take the Laundry Swap Dare:

  • Toxic laundry detergent // swap // Thieves laundry detergent
  • Toxic dryer sheets // swap // wool dryer balls with lavender or lemongrass essential oil

Let's start with Thieves Household Cleaner:

- Create a great, multi-purpose cleaning spray using a 1:30 ratio of cleaner to water in a spray bottle. Use this to spray down the outside of the washer and dryer, any counter tops, sinks, shelves and any pesky marks on the walls from the constant traffic of kids and husbands coming in and out and many, many loads of laundry being done.

- Washers can accumulate mold and mildew, especially if it's a front-load washer and even more so if your laundry room is on the small side. When you start to notice your washer giving off an icky smell, even after washing a load, it's time to check the plastic linings just inside of the washer door. There's a good chance you will find some pretty gross slime looking right back at you. Use your handy spray cleaner that you made to spray all around the inside of that plastic lining, the inside of the drum, and even the door on the inside. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes. Come back to it and wipe it down. Depending on how dirty it is, you may need to do this a second time. Be prepared to be grossed out at what comes off onto the rag. Once you're done wiping it down, deodorize the entire washer by adding a cup of vinegar directly into the washer and a capful of Thieves cleaner where your detergent goes. Run an empty load on your hottest setting. You'll be pleasantly surprised at how fresh your washer smells once it's done. PRO TIP: After each load, leave your washer door open for about an hour to help dry out the inside to prevent more mold/mildew from growing. Also, it's wise to do a good clean and deodorizing at least once every 3 months or so.

- Young Living has come out with an amazing Thieves laundry soap that is 6X concentrated, meaning you only need about 1 tablespoon of detergent per load, saving you so much time and money! Plus, is smells amazing! You can also use Thieves cleaner as a detergent as well! Just add a capful to your detergent cup and wash away!

- To freshen your clothes without having to use the toxic dryer sheets that we used to by in the stores, just invest in a few wool dryer balls, add a few drops of your favorite YL essential oil and toss it in the dryer with your next load. Your clothes will thank you. So will your family. If you don't have the wool dryer balls, you can just add a few drops of EOs to a damp rag and toss it in with the clothes. Easy!

- One of my favorite floor cleaners is a combination of 1 cup vinegar, 2 drops of Purification EO, 2 drops of Lemon EO and about a teaspoon of Thieves dish soap... and a bucket full of hot water. Your floors will shine and it will deodorize your entire laundry room.

Now, let’s talk oils and laundry!

Wash your clothes using Young Living Thieves Laundry Soap*

*With a plant-based formula, Thieves Laundry Soap gently and naturally washes your clothes, cleaning them without any chemical or synthetic residue. Natural enzymes and powerful essential oils add to the formula’s strength to leave your clothes fresh and clean with a light citrus scent.

• Put 6-8 drops of the oil of your choice on your wool balls and throw them in with your laundry (lemongrass is my fave to use) Your clothes will come out smelling heavenly! Check out this video!

Also while we are in the laundry room... What about those pesky stains? I use Lemon EO or thieves cleaner on everything! Even for getting stains out... I’ve successfully used thieves cleaner to remove red wine stains, chocolate, juice, and all the nastiness that ends up on clothing! Just put a little thieves cleaner on the stain, gently scrub with an old toothbrush, let set for 5-10 min and throw it in the washer on cold!!

You and your laundry room will feel SO MUCH BETTER after you do these easy steps... and after a good deep clean to start out with, it will be even easier to keep your appliances clean (and keep them from breaking down) and your clothes fresh every day! You'll actually LOVE going in there to wash your mountains of laundry ;)

Spring Cleaning Series // Part 2 - The Bathroom

Take the Bathroom Swap Dare:

  • Bar Soap // swap // Sandalwood Lemon Bar Soap
  • Conditioner // swap // Copaiba Vanilla Conditioner that I use a pea size amount as leave in instead.
  • Toxic toothpaste // swap // AromaBright toothpaste that lasts way longer than traditional toothpaste, only need a pea size!
  • Expensive and toxic face cleaner and lotion // swap // $5 a month using essential oils!

Tried and True Oil Recipes!

Tile and Grout

Add 1 capful of Thieves Household Cleaner with 1/2 cup of water in a spray bottle. Spray tile and grout. Let sit for a couple of minutes. Use a small brush to get stains out. You may use less water for stronger concentration as needed.

Toilets: Mix 1⁄4 cup of Baking Soda with 1⁄2 capful of Thieves cleaner. Apply to toilet brush. Clean.

Tub Scrub: Take 1⁄2 cup of Baking Soda, 2 capfuls of Thieves Cleaner, 1 T water, 5 drops of Thieves oil, and 5 drops of Lemons. Mix to a paste. Scrub your bathtub with it. Then wipe clean with water. Apply generic Thieves Cleaner Spray and apply!

Mirror Cleaner/Window Cleaner: Place 1 capful of Thieves cleaner in a spray bottle with 4 cups of water. Spray down windows (or any glass) as you would with your "regular" glass cleaner.

Toilet Cleaning Tabs: Mix 2 cups Baking Soda, 2/3 cups Citric Acid, 30 drops Citrus Fresh EO in a spray bottle. Mix all ingredients slowly by spraying with water until wet sand consistency. Add the oils. Place into silicone molds and let it dry overnight. Store in an airtight glass container. When ready to use drop one of them into the water tank of your toilet.

Sanitizing Wipes: Cut a roll of paper towels in half and take out the cardboard piece. Remove enough paper towel sheets for your roll to fit into your container of choice. Using an empty cleaned circular container. Pour 1/2 cup water and 1 tbsp of Dr. Bonner's castile soap in the bottom of the container then gently swirl to mix it. Drop in 2 capfuls of Thieves cleaner then quickly insert your paper towel roll into the container. Let it sit for a few hours to allow the mixture to soak through the towels.

Pro Tip: The amount of water you use depends on the brand of paper towels. If you buy thin paper towels then try a little less water so your wipes won’t be sopping wet.
