Now that you have your oils, where do you start?
Say Hello & Go Slow
Get familiar with your oils. Once they arrive, take them out of the box. Open each one and smell. Look at the directions on each label to see how the oil should be used; oils have different dilution recommendations and usage (e.g. topically, aromatically, or some oils can be used as a dietary supplement while others can't). Get to know your labels!
The directions on each label are NOT for babies and children; adults only. We recommend starting with a few drops less than recommended on each label. It is best to start slowly and let your body adjust to the oils. More is not better in the case of essential oils. Use one oil at a time to start, so you won't overload your body.
Out of Reach From Curious, Little Hands
Store them in a cool, dark place away from sunlight which can degrade the efficacy of the oils. Keep them in your upper kitchen cabinets; away from curious little hands. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN! The oils are potent and children should not have access to them. Get more safety info.
HOW TO USE
Diffusing is a great way to disperse the benefits of oils into the air and throughout your home. Your diffuser will take the place of scented chemical sprays, and you'll wonder how you ever lived without your essential oils! From an afternoon pick-me-up, to supporting your immune system, to help winding down; here are a few of my favorite blends to help you get started.
Or take a minute and smell directly from the bottle or put a few drops in your hand, rub together and cup over your nose and mouth and inhale deeply. I recommend this method for emotional support. When essential oils are inhaled they are directly linked to the limbic lobe of the brain, the emotional control center. The fragrance of the oils work on the limbic system in the brain where emotions are stored and can help relax and clear the mind as well as release emotional trauma (this emotional stuff is amazing for our overall wellness). They can have profound physiological and psychological effects. << Fragrance Wheel >>
Since Young Living produces 100% pure therapeutic grade oils, some of them can be ingested safely. Vitality oils labeled as a dietary supplement have been qualified by the FDA to be GRAS (Generally Regarded As Safe) to use internally. Remember to only ingest essential oils purchased directly from the source and to always check the label to ensure it is an oil that can be ingested. Try adding a drop or two to your water to taste (try grapefruit, lemon, or peppermint), make an immunity boosting tea, or add to an empty veggie capsule.
Topically means to apply directly to the body. You can apply the oil directly on the area of concern. I recommend you dilute your YLEO with a carrier oil - like coconut oil or grapeseed oil - until, at the very least, you know how your body is going to react to the oils. Many essential oils are “hot” oils, always use a carrier oil with them (such as Thieves, PanAway, and Peppermint).
Keep in mind that more is not better, and usually 1 to 3 drops in a carrier will do the trick. If you don't know where to apply your oils, you can apply them to the bottoms of the feet. The bottoms of the feet have very large pores, and very quickly absorb oils. Google Vita Flex points on the feet to get a chart showing all the points.
One of my favorite things to do with my oils is to make pre-diluted roller bottle blends. Keep them by your bed, in your purse, and by the door to grab and go - it's so easy! Add your essential oils to a 10 mL amber roller bottle, top with a carrier oil, pop on the roller top and stick on a label. Roll bottle gently between your hands to thoroughly mix your blend before each application.
When will they "work" & How often to use
Pay attention to your body’s response. There is no perfect solution or blend of oils that works for everyone. Everyone has a different body chemistry, so what works for one person may not work for another. Experiment with different combinations until you find what works for you.
You will usually pick up signs (physical or emotional responses) of how you are responding to the oil within 20-30 minutes. From there, you can decide if that would be an ideal oil to continue working with, or if you should consider trying another oil. Research supports re-applying an essential oil every 20-30 minutes when you are not feeling well. The body’s immunity is already under distress and it is necessary to introduce resources in that time frame to keep it well supported. On average 3-4 applications in a day are sufficient to support a healthy system. Each application will still serve to increase the body’s electromagnetic frequency and keep it in check at a healthy range. Check this out >> 9 Body Systems - 1 Starter Kit <<
